REPORTS TO: Lead Designer

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an Associate Womenswear Designer with 3-5 years experience working within the design industry.  Our desired candidates will have a passion for womenswear, and enjoy working in a close knit, dynamic team environment.  The Associate Designer will play a key role in supporting Creative Director, Liz Joy, and the Lead Designer.  Our brand delivers 5 complete collections a year.  Each seasonal collection encompasses sweaters, cut & sew knits and wovens, requiring the associate to be agile in working across multiple product categories.  A  degree in Fashion Design or Studio Arts are preferred. 

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & CAD Development:

    • Support the design team by creating detailed flat sketches, CADs, technical diagrams and technical packages.

    • Research seasonal silhouette, print and color trends;  organize research in Canva and present ideas to the team at concept stages of the design process. 

    • Prepare design boards, color palettes, and seasonal presentations under direction of Lead Designer to present to the Creative Director seasonally. 

    • Assist with creating and updating design development line sheets..

  • Material Sourcing & Development:

    • Organize signature print swatches and trims in the Marea Design Library.

    • Communicate with vendor suppliers to source fabrics, trims, and accessories.

    • Maintain detailed design development binders of fabrics, prints, knit downs, lab dips, and trims for each season, as well as fabric and trim approval binders for bulk.

  • Collaboration Across Teams:

    • Liaise between design, technical design, production, merchandising and marketing teams to ensure alignment and support.

    • Assist with BOM (bill of materials) entry and tech pack set-up to support design development, update BOMs through design process to support production readiness.

  • Sample Management:

    • Collaborate with the Production Assistant on tracking inbound and outbound samples, ensuring timely delivery and organization for presentations, photoshoots and wholesale needs.

  • Organization & Workflow Support:

    • Maintain seasonal linesheets across  product categories.

    • Attend sample fittings and assist with technical note taking.

What You’ll Bring
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in women’s apparel design, with a focus on knits and wovens.

  • Strong ability to work in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Excel. Must be able to sketch using Adobe Illustrator.

  • Ability to manipulate artwork files using both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • Knowledge of knitwear and woven construction and hands-on experience in garment construction.

  • Strong interpersonal skills within a cross-functional team dynamic.

  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas visually and verbally.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • A creative eye aligned with Marea’s aesthetic of timeless, refined, and elevated design.
